Life: Absolut Fringe Festival
A barge, a bush, a French diva, chocolate cake, gorillas, snakes, a show in a supermarket, contortionists, the sassiest hoola hooper in the world, robots, lions and Manchán Magan in a dress brandishing a chainsaw are among the elements of this year's Fringe Festival, now called Absolut Fringe, in partnership with the Swedish vodka brand.

Life: Andrew Vickery- Artist
English-born Dublin-based artist Andrew Vickery has his first one-person exhibition at the Peppercannister Gallery from August 27th to September 12th. Charming, initially appealingly naïve but slightly sinister, these paintings are people-free stage sets or cinema shots waiting for a narrative.

Life: Around the world in Dún Laoghaire
This year's Festival of World Cultures takes place throughout Dún Laoghaire on August 29th and 30th with its usual eclectic and kaleidoscopic selection of concerts and club nights, fairs and markets, dance, street events and workshops featuring everything from indigenous to classical, traditional, folk, eclectic and tribal arts and culture.

Life: Electric Picnic
Ireland's best known boutique arts and music festival, on the 600 acres of rolling lawns at Stradbally Hall in Co. Laois, the Electric Picnic kicks off from September 4th

Aidan O'Brien will get his chance to take Sea the Stars down a peg or two in a race not to be missed at Leopardstown next month, writes Ian Parker.
