Yes to Lisbon
Peter Sutherland and the Irish business community come out in support of the Lisbon Treaty
Business & Finance's Business Leaders Forum, in conjunction with the Westbury Hotel, got underway on July 30th with a discussion on the Lisbon Treaty. Former EU Commissioner and current chairman of BP and executive chairman of Goldman Sachs, Peter Sutherland, gave a speech to seventy members of the business community. He argued that a second no vote in the forthcoming referendum would have devastating consequences for the economy. Ciaran Ennis, IBM, also gave a speech in which he underlined the importance of being at the heart of the EU. He warned that another no vote would threaten future foreign direct investment in this country.
The concept of the Business Leaders Forum is to have regular gatherings of the most senior business people in the country to discuss the key challenges facing the economy.
