Ones to Watch: Polish hand & foot spa

What is it?

Polish is an intimate new hand and foot spa located on Fitzwilliam Street in the heart of Georgian Dublin. Designed in an elegant, French classic style, Polish boasts a relaxed and sophisticated environment created by an interior of calming taupes, creams and a signature pale-blue flock wallpaper.

Polish SpasOwner Caroline McNamara opened Polish as she saw a demand in the Dublin 2 area for a dedicated nail salon that offered top quality treatments with excellent service at competitive prices.

Who's behind it?

Caroline McNamara worked in the property industry for 30 years. When the property bubble burst, she decided to look for a "recession-proof" business. Caroline says: "even when budgets are tight, women still need to take care of their nails. Dublin 2 is the heart of the business district and I saw a gap in the market here for a salon where women and men working in the area's offices could pop out at lunchtime or after work to avail of a hand or foot treatment.

"I have three staff who between them have over 30 years experience in the nail business and who have all won awards for their standards of excellence.

"With mini manicures starting at €20, we are very competitively priced which is obviously crucial in the current economic climate."

Financial situation?

Polish was opened by Caroline with an initial investment in the region of €60,000. Once Polish is up and running successfully, Caroline has plans for expansion.

Future plans?

Polish caters for as many audiences as possible and plans to extend its range of services over the coming months. Males are catered for with male manicures and pedicures, and there are birthday parties for teenagers where they enjoy "Little Lady Treatments" including manicures, pedicures, ice creams and non-alcoholic cocktails.

New services coming soon are a jewellery-cleaning service while customers are having their nails done and also a spray tan service. Polish will also be offering training in hand and foot treatments from September 2010.
