Championing medical devices

I was just talking to Sharon Higgins from the Irish Medical Devices Association who was on her way back from Dromoland Castle in Co Clare where the IMDA Excellence Awards were held, as well as a day of strategy talks for the association. Congratulations to Crospon for winning the overall prize!

Those in attendance had a lot to celebrate; the medical devices sector is trucking ahead at a time when the rest of the economy is suffering. Ireland is seen as a major - possibly the major - medical devices hub outside of the US.

(Although unfortunately Pharmaceuticals aren't getting away very lightly; the news that GSK will shut the Stiefel facility in Sligo was a hard blow.)

I was at the recent Med in Ireland showcase, which was an excellent display of the talent we have to offer here. 200 or so international delegates met roughly 50 Irish companies. Entreprise Ireland, which managed and funded the event, reckon €35 million worth of deals could come out of that day alone (and quietly predict that the figure will actually be even bigger).

There is a lot we could be shouting about.
