The Minister for Finance has established a special Group to examine State assets and liabilities and to advise him on how the assets can be better used or disposed of to support economic growth and national investment priorities.
The Minister has appointed Colm McCarthy of University College Dublin as Chair of the Group.
The other members are Donal McNally, Second Secretary General Department of Finance, and Alan Matthews Professor of European Agricultural Policy at Trinity College Dublin.
The Group has begun its work and will focus at the outset on assets and liabilities in the commercial state sector, examining the potential of this important part of the economy to stimulate job creation and support broader economic recovery.
The Group has been asked to provide an interim report to the Minister for Finance before the end of the year. As part of the review process, all relevant stakeholders will be consulted and submissions from the public and interested parties will be sought.
