He studied for a degree in zoology, going on to gain a PhD in Zoology and Biochemistry in 1979, and worked on a post-doctoral fellowship at University College Dublin until 1982.
David McCann: Fyffes
David McCann is executive chairman of Fyffes, one of the largest tropical-produce importers and distributors in Europe. The global fruit distributor is primarily involved in the production, procurement, shipping, ripening, distribution and marketing of bananas, pineapples and melons. It currently markets fruit in Europe and the United States, primarily under the Fyffes and Turbana brands.

John Dunsmore: C&C
Former group chief executive of Scottish & Newcastle (S&N), John Dunsmore was appointed CEO of C&C Group, replacing Maurice Pratt, in November 2008. Following a positive start to the first half, trading conditions in August and September were more challenging. Accounts filed for the first half of 2009 showed revenue declined 6.3% to €257.5 million and operating profit declined 2% to €57.4m
John Flahavan: E Flahavan and Sons
John Flahavan is the current chairman of E Flahavan and Sons. In his younger years, Flahavan spent his school holidays working for the family business he now runs. Upon finishing school in 1972, he began working for the company full time. He inherited 16% of the business from his late father but over the years has been able to buy out the other 84% from other cousins and family members. The company currently has 50 employees.

John Moloney: Glanbia
John Moloney was appointed group managing director of Glanbia in July 2001, after four years on the board. He joined the company in 1987 and has held a number of positions in senior management since then. He was appointed deputy group managing director in 2000 and assumed the responsibilities of chief operating officer in 2001.
John Teeling: Cooley Distillery
Dr John Teeling divides his time between chairing Cooley Distillery and a clutch of natural resource companies. 2009 was a good year on both fronts. Cooley reported a doubling of profits to €3.5 million, it won the European Distiller of the Year awards and saw the Kilbeggan 15 year-old selected as the Best Whiskey in the World.

Paul Duffy: Pfizer
Dr Paul Duffy is vice-president of Pfizer manufacturing Ireland and Singapore. In January 2009, Pfizer announced the acquisition of Wyeth, another pharmaceutical giant, for an estimated $68.1 billion. What this means for Duffy is that his Cork-based operation is now the largest foreign direct investment (FDI) employer in Ireland. Combined, Pfizer and Wyeth employ more that 5,000 people in Ireland and Pfizer has become a more diversified health care company, with product offerings in human, animal, and consumer health.
